Birthday Blog 2010
It's my birthday today! Thanks everyone for the good wishes. A year since I was rafting the Grand Canyon with my dad and friends eating wild harvested mesquite flour raw chocolate cake and being a part of my first spank circle.
Here are some highlights:
Dance - Co-Created and Performed ritual dances at Winter and Summer Soulfest; Created Cuddle Courner at weekly dance event BIJA; Now as good as I need to be at CI, realized my curiosity in Contact Improvisation has something to do with exploration of sensation and emotion; Developed mastery of poi spinning technique using double ended sock glow poi with circle kicks, body wraps, and throws; Will perform in front of the man before the burn at Burning Man.
Drum - Mastered double split hand technique on the Doumbek, switched to practicing multiple voice percussion; Performed with Reed and Kirill at yoga class; Continued with Mountain Trance.
Didgeridoo - Expanded comfort range on slide didgeridoo to B through E; Cleaned up sound; wish I was rich again so I could buy a new toy, the Face Base sub sonic microphone.
BodyWork - Exploring Pre/Post Natal patterning and Body Mind Centering with Annie Brook. Cleared up some of my patterns around father with poor boundaries and shock from jaundice lights at summer camp. Start seeing early patterns in others.
Community - Successful Cuddle Cavern Theme camp at Beltania and Apogaea.
Computer - Got over my 4 year block with working on computers with help of channeled being named Joseph (ha!); Started focusing on getting up to speed with Drupal and did my first professional job as an independent web programmer; Bought a cheap Chinese cutting plotter, got it running using open source resources, started cutting sand blast resist for schools and parks.
Sand Blasting - Have had a couple of months heavy work on Broadway sign job and Denver schools; Big mistake blasting letters upside down at Doull Elementary; Fixed mistake before blasting pointing sun dial for Monarch Elementary in wrong direction; Figuring out recipe for success on sand blast signs.
Financial - Bought and remodeled cheapest condo in town; Failed to convince the HOA board to offer phone and Internet to residents with my help; Failed to convince HOA board to let me put a doorway in my non-structural central wall; haven't gotten housing stimulus check for condo purchase yet; warped head gasket on my van, found replacement part on-line that mechanic could not find.
Body Journeys - Visceral work on self, cleared blocked common bile duct stuck during Grand Canyon river trip, mobilized ptosed Kidneys and ureters; Unwound shoulder trauma from oar jerks in rapids on Grand; After hitting head while dancing CI in Moab released energy cyst in right neck caused by tube stuck down my throat while under general anesthetic during oral surgery when I was 17; Coughed up more of the ammonia that I breathed in when the RV refrigerator broke while I was sleeping (and living) in the RV last summer; broke a rib while playing a pickup game of Ultimate Frisbee with nerds at Colorado Drupal Camp.
Relationship - Still running away, good luck catching me; had fun condomate Lila for a while. Have a best friend for the first time in to long (friend Kirill, the crazy Russian doctor of computer and cognitive science), yay.
Wow that's a lot. I've had a feeling of being stuck occasionally this year, and have been, in some directions. This exercise, however, is reminding me how much I have grown and accomplished this year.
